Cindy Huijgen (1991) is correspondent in Beijing voor dagblad Trouw. Haar persoonlijke essay 'I Was Adopted From China as a Baby. I’m Still Coming to Terms With That’, gepubliceerd in The New York Times, werd bekroond door de Asian American Journalists Association. Als freelancer werkt ze regelmatig samen met internationale media, waaronder France24, Sky News en RTS.
Huijgen studeerde Chinees en Journalistiek aan de Universiteit Leiden en woont sinds 2019 in China. Ze was de eerste Nederlandstalige journalist die in het begin van de coronapandemie verslag deed vanuit Wuhan.
In haar boek Dit is ook China: Terug naar mijn geboorteland (Pluim, 2024) combineert ze haar ervaringen als buitenlandse journalist met haar persoonlijke verhaal als geadopteerde en de zoektocht naar haar biologische ouders.

Cindy Huijgen (1991) is a Beijing-based correspondent for the Dutch daily Trouw. Her guest essay "I Was Adopted From China as a Baby. I’m Still Coming to Terms With That", published in The New York Times, received an award from the Asian American Journalists Association. As a freelancer, she regularly collaborates with international media outlets including France24, Sky News and RTSS.
Huijgen studied Chinese and Journalism at Leiden University and has been living in China since 2019. She was the first Dutch journalist to report from Wuhan at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her book This Is Also China: Returning to My Birth Country (Pluim, 2024) explores the challenges of working as a foreign journalist in China, as well as her personal journey as an adoptee searching for her biological parents.
